The students, based at the University of the Highlands and Islands' North Highland College UHI campus in Dornoch, undertook a two-day practical course with the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and a child protection course to allow them to deliver coaching to the primary five pupils.

Lesley Mackay, lecturer and PGA advanced Professional supported the students through the coaching sessions said; “It’s a fantastic opportunity for children in the school who may never have had a shot at golf before and equally, it gives our students valuable coaching experience and helps them develop life skills.”

The practical coaching is part of two modules delivered at the University, which develops the students coaching knowledge by applying the theory alongside practical experience. The long-standing, close relationship with Dornoch Primary school ensures that year after year students are able to benefit from practical coaching experience.

Limited places are still available for the Professional Golf and Golf Management courses. To find out more about any of the courses offered by North Highland College UHI, please visit www.uhi.ac.uk/golf or contact us at (0)1847 889000 or golf@uhi.ac.uk
