New careers on the menu at college campuses in Dornoch and Thurso

When Tracie Drummond from Lairg was made redundant from her third-sector job, she decided a new challenge was needed and signed up to the college’s SVQ2 Professional Cookery course in Dornoch.

What do you think about the style of teaching and the support you receive?

The practical teaching style is perfect for me, and my tutors are very supportive and accessible at all times.

How do you feel your studies will help you in your career progression?

My studies will open new opportunities as it was a complete change for me. I have already been offered opportunities in the catering industry.

What advice would you give to those considering studying?

I would highly recommend any of the college’s professional cookery courses. As a mature student who has being cooking for a number of years, it has allowed me to hone my skills and learn a wealth of information which I will take with me and use in any future career opportunities.

What are your favourite things about the course?

The team spirit and having the opportunity to cook show stopping dishes. All the tutors, staff and fellow students were supportive and friendly, and it felt like being part of one big happy team. I would highly recommend studying Professional Cookery at North Highland College UHI in Dornoch.
