Our Graduation and Awards will now be held on the 21st October in St Andrew’s and St Peter’s Church in Thurso, KW14 7BQ at 2pm.

We have contacted Ede and Ravenscroft to change your gown and photography bookings to the new date. If you wish to attend on 21st Oct, then you will not need to do anything – your booking will automatically be transferred over to the new date

Registration

Please refer to the following details as a guide for Graduation registration.

If you are an SVQ3, HNC, HND, degree or post-graduate student in your final year and you expect to qualify, please await receipt of your official invite in the post and then register online for the ceremony, order your gown and pre-order photography packages via our official supplier Ede and Ravenscroft:

Please check that all of the details we hold for you are correct - name, address, course title – and let us know if anything needs updating via nhcgraduation@uhi.ac.uk

You will also be able to notify us of additional information, such as requests for additional tickets, dietary requirements and access needs when you register online.

Dress code

Our Graduation Ceremony is formal, so please be smartly dressed (no jeans). This could be national dress, dark tie, dark suit, dark skirt or dress, white shirt or blouse.

Robe Hire

In order to receive your award on stage you must be wearing the appropriate gown/hood, which should be hired directly from our official suppliers, Ede and Ravenscroft.

Photography

Ede and Ravenscroft is the official photographer for the graduation. They offer graduation photography packages which you can view on their site.

Ede and Ravenscroft will open photography from 9.30am. Photography studios will be set up in the Pentland Hotel from 11am onwards on the day.

Graduates are advised to pre-order photographs via the Ede and Ravenscroft registration portal.

Guests

Graduating students are permitted to bring along 2 guests. Guests will be shown to the guest area in the Church on the day by College staff helpers. Where you have indicated to us that guests require special arrangements, we will ensure that they are seated in an appropriate area.

Graduates will be seated in a reserved area of the Church and must stay in their designated seat once directed by staff to allow Awards to be presented in the correct order.

A member of the Graduation Events team will confirm whether any requests for additional places have been approved before the ceremony.

What happens on the day

  • On the day, students must register in the Pentland Hotel, Thurso from 11.00 onwards – Registration closes at 13.00
  • Please note, there is no designated car park and the Pentland Hotel or the St Peter’s and St Andrew’s Church. Public parking is available either on nearby roadsides or in local public car parks.
  • Gowns will be ready for collection in the Pentland once you have registered. A photography studio will also be set up within the hotel. If you require family photographs, please ask your guests to also be present in the photography studio.
  • Guests should be seated in the church where the ceremony will take place, by 1340 hrs. Staff will be available to direct guests to the relevant area.
  • Students are asked to remain in the Pentland Hotel once they have been gowned. This procedure is necessary to ensure students are briefed and correctly assembled in order before they are led into the Church to be seated.

An Order of Ceremony, including the names of students awarded in 2021/2022 will be available for everyone on the day and I summarise proceedings at the Church as follows:

  • Welcome Address by the Chair of the Board of Management
  • Principal’s Address
  • Presentation of Special Awards including the UHI NH Student of the Year
  • Address by Guest Speaker
  • Student address
  • Presentation of Graduating Student Awards
  • Student Vote of Thanks

At the end of the ceremony, students and guests should proceed out of the church and walk back to the Pentland Hotel where you are warmly invited for a drinks reception and finger buffet. Gowns must be returned to Ede & Ravenscroft in the Hotel by 1700 hrs and guests are kindly asked to depart the Hotel by 18.00.
