SVQ Youth Work SCQF Level 7

What is special about this course?

This SVQ 3 in Youth Work is work based and has a structured, but flexible, delivery. Students are assessed in the workplace to allow you to demonstrate your competence within a youth work setting.

This award meets registration requirements for Scottish Social Services Council for Youth Workers. The SVQ in Youth Work helps to develop skills and knowledge already gained in a Youth Work setting.

Entry requirements

  • Suitable employment full or part time, voluntary or paid, in youth services at a supervisory/managerial level
  • You should ideally hold the SVQ 2 qualification and work at a supervisory level

To achieve the qualification, candidates will complete five mandatory units and three optional units.

Mandatory units are:

  • Facilitate Young People's Exploration of Their Values and Beliefs
  • Enable Young People to Work Effectively in Groups
  • Enable Young People to Use Their Learning to Evaluate and Enhance Their Future Development
  • Fulfil the Legal Regulatory and Ethical Requirements Relevant to Youth Work
  • Develop Productive Working Relationships with Colleagues

You will be supported in the workplace and at your weekly drop-in session, by a local assessor who will mentor and assist you in preparing your portfolio of evidence. 

Drop-in sessions are available one day per week at our Thurso and Alness campuses and you will be strongly encouraged to attend.

Full-Time Study

Full-time students will automatically receive the fee waiver if they are eligible from the information they have provided on their course application form.

If you have been living in the UK for at least three years, are an ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full-time course. Please check our fee waiver policy for more information.

  • The College has a limited number of Modern Apprenticeships available for this award
