SVQ Professional Cookery SCQF Level 4

What is special about this course?

This SVQ Level 1 Professional cookery is perfect as an introduction to working in a professional kitchen. You will learn basic preparation methods and kitchen etiquette which is essential in any professional kitchen.

Entry requirements

You must demonstrate a desire to work in a professional kitchen and have a passion for food. An offer to study this course is also subject to a satisfactory interview. 

This qualification covers areas such as:

  • Workplace health and safety
  • Food safety
  • Standards of behaviour in hospitality
  • Team working
  • Preparing and cooking a wide range of ingredients

Full-Time Study

Full-time students will automatically receive the fee waiver if they are eligible from the information they have provided on their course application form.

If you have been living in the UK for at least three years, are an ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full-time course. Please check our fee waiver policy for more information.

What can I do on completion of my course?

You may wish to progress onto our SVQ level 2 in Professional Cookery at SCQF level 5 or look for employment within the hospitality sector as a kitchen assistant or trainee chef.
