Business Administration and Marketing NQ

What is special about this course?

This is a brand-new course for anyone wishing to embark on a career, or progress to further study, in Business, Administration or Marketing.

Designed for the modern work environment, this course will give you an excellent grounding in administration technologies, business and marketing approaches, whilst also incorporating important finance and customer service skills, crucial for all relevant career options.

Entry requirements

Ideally students will have achieved at least 3 National 5s including English or another literary subject.  Some basic IT skills would be an advantage.

If you don't meet our entry requirements, your previous experience may still qualify you for this course. Mature students will be considered on merit. All candidates will be invited to an information event.

The course contains 4 x NPA Qualifications.  These are:

  • NPA Business with Information Technology
  • NPA Business with Marketing
  • NPA Administration: Information Technology and Audio
  • NPA PC Passport

The unit topics you will study include:

  • Understanding Business
  • Marketing Basic Principles
  • IT units covering: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations and Databases
  • Customer Service skills, incl social media skills
  • Management skills
  • Event Organisation
  • Recording Cash Transactions
  • Audio and e-Touch Typing skills

This course is delivered online with timetabled classes and can be studied from anywhere with an internet connection. If you would prefer to study this course at one of our campuses in Thurso, Dornoch or Alness, please let us know on your application form.

You normally need to commit to 18 hours per week (2-3 days) of blended learning time consisting of timetabled learning and personal study. Timetabled learning will take place from Wednesday to Friday. 

Timetabled learning will take place in an online classroom where you will connect and interact with your lecturer and classmates through our virtual learning environment. You will also complete regular and flexible personal study which most students choose to do from home. 

This course is delivered online between UHI North Highland, UHI Argyll and UHI West Highland.

    Full-Time Study

    Full-time students will automatically receive the fee waiver if they are eligible from the information they have provided on their course application form.

    If you have been living in the UK for at least three years, are an ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full-time course. Please check our fee waiver policy for more information.

    What can I do on completion of my course?

    This qualification could be your start to a successful career in many business sectors, as well as providing a platform to continue onto further study both here and further afield. At UHI we have several progression routes for you to consider including HNC Administration and Information Technology and HNC Business, both of which are networked and can be studied from any of our college centres, or from home.
