What is special about this course?
This programme combines the NC Welding and Fabrication with the SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations. This is a 16 week full-time course based at Nigg Skills Academy, Nigg, Ross-shire, IV19 1QY.
Entry requirements
School leavers
- Three national 4 qualifications including Maths, English and a technical/science subject
- SQA skills for work in engineering would also be an advantage
- Satisfactory interview
Mature students
- Relevant post-school education and training
- Satisfactory interview

How long will my course last?
16 WeeksThis programme combines the NC Welding and Fabrication with the SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations. This is a 16 week full time course based at Nigg Skills Academy, Nigg, Ross-shire, IV19 1QY. These qualifications satisfy the foundation training for a modern apprenticeship in fabrication and welding engineering.

Please note, UHI North Highland will be changing its name to UHI North, West and Hebrides in August 2023, subject to Scottish Government approval. This will not impact on your choice of course or how and where you will study.

Full-Time Study
Full-time students will automatically receive the fee waiver if they are eligible from the information they have provided on their course application form.
If you have been living in the UK for at least three years, are an ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full-time course. Please check our fee waiver policy for more information.

What can I do on completion of my course?
Completion of this course could be used to secure employment into a Modern Apprenticeship in the Fabrication and Welding/engineering sector or as a progression route to NC Engineering level 6.
