What is special about this course?

This course gives you the opportunity to achieve:
• National Certificate Business at Level 5
• NPA in Business with Information Technology
• Higher Business Management (or National 5)

Our NC Business course has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the key business drivers such as finance, marketing and customer care along with the underlying skills of communication and ICT. It will help develop knowledge and understanding of the role of business in society, develop knowledge and ability to use a variety of software packages, and develop awareness of those issues facing organisations in today’s business world.

The inclusion of the Higher Business Management qualification provides you with an understanding of the dynamic, changing, competitive and economic environment of industry and commerce and develops your skills in communicating and presenting business-related information, in a variety of formats, to the various stakeholders of an organisation. The Higher course covers a broad spectrum of learning and is intended to develop your skills in a challenging and enjoyable way, as it relates Business Management to real-life business contexts. (Students have the opportunity to study for National 5 Business Management or Higher Business
Management).

Entry requirements

School leavers:

  • Four National 4 (or equivalent) qualifications with at least one in a relevant subject and one in literacy and/or numeracy
  • Satisfactory reference and interview
  • Successful completion of a short assessment to demonstrate numerical and literacy ability
  • Ideally, you will have achieved National 5 Business Management

Mature students:

  • Evidence of relevant work experience
  • Satisfactory reference
  • Successful interview
  • Successful completion of a short assessment to demonstrate numerical and literacy ability

Returning students:

• Recording Cash Transactions
• PC Passport: Spreadsheets, Database, Word Processing, Presenting Information
• Event Organisation
• Management of People and Finance
• Management of Marketing and Operations
• Work Experience
• Development of all 5 core skills – communication, numeracy, IT, working with others and problem-solving

The course is intended for those who want to develop their knowledge and skills in a range of business areas, and wish either to develop a foundation for progression to further study or to use the skills and knowledge gained on this course to enter employment within a range of business environments. The course is designed to give you the skills required to progress to further study on HNC level courses in either Business, Events or Accounting.
